Happy New Year! We decided to start 2010 with a profile of one from our team. Lyn Grady is part of the newsletter team and author of
View from the Pew. She and her daughter Sana live in Teaneck and began attending Unity in 2006 after being invited by Unity member Venessa St. Clair, whom Lyn met through mutual friends. Two weeks after meeting Venessa, Lyn was in a serious car accident when a driver ran a red light. Lyn was also going through a divorce. “I actually thought I had moved on until the car door flew open and I heard all of the yelling. I think this accident was a turning point in my life because I had been
behaving as if life was over because of the divorce. The accident was a wake up call, and I dragged my broken body to Unity. Sana and I were so emotionally fragile at the time and the love we felt from the congregation from the moment we entered the door was just what the two of us needed.” Sana is an active fifth grader who participates in the Sunday school and Youth choir. She takes piano lessons, is also a member of the school band (she plays the flute) and the Girl Scouts. (Mom’s the co-leader of her troop.)
Tell us three words that describe you best as mother and daughter.
Friends, jokesters, and conquerors!
What do you like best about the church?
We both enjoy that there are many activities to be a part of at the church and that we learn so much about nurturing our Christ spirit. We also love all of the wonderful friends we now have in our lives, friends who are really more like family.
What activities do you like to do together?
Our favorite place is the Poconos. We enjoy spending time together there marveling at the beauty that God has created in the mountains and trees. Our normal day is jam packed with activities and rigid time schedules, so when we go to the Poconos our only rule is that we have no rules. We get up when we want and go out when we want. We are in perfect sync there.
How do you help each other stay focused spiritually?
Whenever one of us strays from our highest thought, the other one always gives a reminder to get back on the path. I love that about us. We remind each other.
What are you each looking forward to spiritually in 2010?
To be in alignment in body, mind, and soul… There is a saying, "You will know you are enlightened when you eat when you are hungry, sleep when you are tired, drink when you are thirsty, and work when you feel like it."
